Local Information: The farmhouse is situated 3km from the nearest market town, Rostrenen, a center of culture which, every August, holds the pardon of Notre Dame de Rostrenen. This ceremony dates back to the 14th century and involves the carrying of a statue of the Virgin, by torchlight, to the Montagne du Miniou. One of France's most rugged regions, Brittany is a fascinating mix of spectacular coastline, ancient towns, magical islands and inland woods. A Celtic duchy for more than one thousand years before its annexation to France in 1532, it is a land rich in culture, tradition and history. The département’s southern half is crossed by the Noires Mountains that run west to east and constitute the watershed divide between northward flowing rivers, that empty into the Channel, and the rivers emptying to the south into the Bay of Biscay. The Channel is dotted by charming seaside resorts and old fishing villages. Most of the towns of the interior were founded in the Middle Ages. There are many interesting places to visit including Bon Repos - an ancient Abbey, the historical Huelgoat and the towns of Pontivy, Quimper and Brest. The farmhouse is within driving distance of the canal and three lakes which offer walking, cycling, fishing and watersports. Other activities available in the region include cycling, golf, waterskiing, windsurfing, fishing, swimming, horse riding and tennis. |
